Ioannis Th. Mazis
From 1983 until February 2010 I was Professor of Economic Geography-Geopolitics at the Ionian University, in the Department of Economic Geography and Geopolitics.
Since February 2010, I was transferred as Professor of Economic Geography at the Department of Turkish and Modern Asian Studies of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, where I am now serving as a full professor and teaching the courses of Economic Geography and Geopolitics of the Middle East and Turkey I & II, as well as the General Principles of Research Methodology (http://eclass.uoa.gr/modules/auth/opencourses.php?fc=1036).
As part of my research responsibilities I try to contribute to the international theoretical debate on Contemporary Geopolitics, its clear distinction from Geostrategy and its new forms. As a Professor of Ionian University I founded in 2002, and ran until February 2010, when I was transferred from the University of Athens as Professor of Economic Geography, the Geocultural Analysis Laboratory (Geolab) of the Ionian University (TxGMD) (Official Gazette Issue A, No. 5, 18/01/2002, PD No. 9).
According to Article 1o of the founding Presidential Decree No. 9: “… the Geo-cultural Analysis Laboratory serves educational and research needs in the field of International Relations, Economic Geography, Geopolitics, Political Science, Comparative Law, Diplomatic History, International Economic Relations, European Institutions, Intercultural Studies and Foreign Languages, Countries and Cultures.”
In accordance with Article 2o of the founding Presidential Decree “… The mission of the Laboratory is: 1. To meet the teaching and research needs of the Department […] and of other Departments of the Foundation at undergraduate and postgraduate level on issues that fall within the scope of the Laboratory’s activities as defined in Article 1 of this Decree as well as on issues that fall within the scope of the professional and scientific orientations of the Department and, finally, to develop teaching and research programmes for the development of basic and advanced training in the field of the teaching of foreign languages and languages.
2. The cooperation in any form with research centres and academic institutions in Greece and abroad, provided that the scientific objectives coincide, are compatible and complementary with those of the laboratory.
3. The organization of scientific lectures, workshops, seminars, symposia, conferences and other scientific events, the realization of publications and publications and the invitation of Greek and foreign recognized scientists.
4. The provision of services to individuals in accordance with the provisions of Presidential Decree 159/1984 “Conditions for the provision of services by university laboratories to individuals and all types of organizations” (A’ 53).
