Biography

Liana Souvaltzi

Liana Souvaltzi studied Philology and Archaeology. During the period 1973-1986 she took part in excavations in Crete as a member of expeditions under the supervision of the University of Athens and the Ministry of Culture. He worked in Western Crete with the Curator of Antiquities of Western Crete and former Director of Prehistoric and Classical Antiquities of the Ministry of Culture, Mr. Yannis Tzedakis. She is currently working on her doctoral thesis on “Comparative study of cult figurines found in the tombs of Crete and Egypt in the period 1700-305 BC”.
In 1986 she was elected General Secretary of the Society of Friends of the National Archaeological Museum. As General Secretary of the National Library of the National Archaeological Museum of Greece, she was appointed as the General Secretary of the National Archaeological Museum of Greece. As General Secretary, she created many new programmes on her own initiative and gave new impetus to the Society’s relations with the Museum’s administration.
In 1989 she started her own excavation at the Sioua Oasis in Egypt and in 1990, due to her obligations in Egypt, she resigned from her position as General Secretary. She resigned from her post as the General Secretary of the Society of Friends of the National Archaeological Museum in 1990. She has given numerous lectures in Greece and abroad, such as in Alexandria and Cairo, Egypt, Switzerland, Spain, London, Canada, etc. She has published articles in the Proceedings of International Conferences, as well as in many journals in Greece and abroad. Liana Souvaltzi is the Director of the united Greek-Egyptian Mission of the Tomb of Alexander the Great at El Maraki, Sioua Oasis, Egypt.
