Ioannis Maronitis
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE – SOCIAL ACTION
1976-1983: Executive of ITT MARINE LTD Company for the manufacture of electronic devices for ships.
1983-1985: Executive at the Air Force Research and Technology Center (KETA-TH)
From 1985 to 1998 he was a member of the tripartite Secretariat of the PASOK Prefectural Committee of Piraeus, responsible from time to time for trade unionism, education, culture and sports.
In 1989 he was elected to the executive of the PASK of Public Employees. He is a member of the E.E.T.E.M.
Vice-Chairman of the management of the PLATO Sports Centre from 1986 to 1989.
1990-1995: Head of the Electronic Protection Systems Department (KETA-TH)
Since 1992 he has been participating as a Prefectural Councillor in the Prefectural Council of Piraeus, initially as a representative of social organisations and in 1994 he was elected member of the Athens – Piraeus Electoral Prefectural Authority
1995-1998: Deputy Prefect of Piraeus.
EXPERIENCE IN PLANNING, ORGANISING & IMPLEMENTING TRAINING COURSES
AND CULTURAL PROGRAMMES
1995-1997
In 1995, he was appointed by the Prefect of Piraeus as Chairman of the Prefectural Committee for Education, Religious Education and Popular Education, as well as Deputy Prefect for Political Planning for Emergencies (P.S.E.A.) and Chairman of the Prefectural Coordinating Body for Emergencies.
In the above capacities I am indicatively listed:
α) The administrative responsibilities that I have assumed
b) The initiatives in the broader field of education and training that I had undertaken & c) My involvement in the ESF-subsidized projects of NELE.
A) I had the political responsibility of a department to which thousands of public education employees belong and I have, among other responsibilities:
– in all matters relating to the election and appointment of the members of the Regional Service Council for Primary and Secondary Education (Article 10-21 of Decree 75/86, Government Gazette 28 TA)
– the determination of the use of the countries in which the classrooms are to be used
– determining the opening hours of schools, issues of co-location, etc.
– appointment of administrative staff
– promotion of teachers
– appointment of head teachers, teachers, secondments, transfers, etc.
– submitting proposals to the Ministry of Education for the needs for teaching aids, etc.
– organisation of all kinds of events
B) On the basis of the previous responsibilities I had, among other things, undertaken and implemented the following initiatives:
– Establishment of a Health Counselling Station.
– Establishment of a Psychosocial Service for School Units in the Prefecture. Establishment of a Health Care Support Service of Piraeus County.
– Creation of a Sponsor Bank for Culture.
– Establishment of a Citizen Communication Centre at NELE PIRAEUS
– Pilot project “District Heating” of the 1st TEI of PIRAEUS
– Integrated proposal for the establishment of a Traffic Education Park
– Submission of a proposal for the establishment of an Environmental Education Centre
C) As President of NELE, I was not only involved in the administration, but I was substantially involved in the planning and implementation of the various training sections, as well as in the parallel monitoring and control procedures. Indicatively:
– Social Exclusion Programmes
– Programmes for specific social groups
– Programmes for specific social exclusion programmes
In cooperation with the staff of NELE Piraeus I participated in the formulation and implementation of the annual Training Programme. I participated in the design and implementation of the Continuing Training and Anti-Social Exclusion Programmes during the Transition Stage in 1997, which was carried out by NELE Piraeus.
Founder and Director of the Vocational Training Centre of the Prefecture of Piraeus (KEK Piraeus)
I was active in the Popular Training of the Prefecture of Piraeus (NELE).
NELE experienced an unprecedented recovery, and thousands of citizens were introduced to its services:
1. We organized programs (computer science, journalism, graphic design, stained glass, ceramics, nautical, photography, Greek language for illiterate people).
2. We implemented programs for theatre, cinema, dance, music, painting, traditional arts, traditional dances.
3. We organized very important workshops on Education, Environment, Training, Employment, Tradition and Culture.
4. We organized anti-drug prevention programs for teachers, parents and students in cooperation with KETHEA.
5. We established the Communication and Information Centre of NELE which has carried out the following work:
A). Connection to the Internet and creation of web pages in order to inform the citizens and expand transnational cooperation.
B). Preparation of the publication of a Guide to Services.
C). Preparation of the publication of a Guide to Medical and Social Services and Social Support of the School.
D). Creation of a database for the promotion to employment of unemployed trainees.
We successfully organized more than 250 cultural events.

– February 1998 – Honorary President of the Choir and Symphony Orchestra of PIRAEUS
– October 1998 Re-elected Prefectural Councillor (to date).
– January 1999 Elected Prefectural Commissioner.
– January 2000 elected Vice President of the Piraeus Prefectural Council.
– February 1999 Founding member and President of the UNESCO Group of the Prefecture of Piraeus and the Islands.
A twelve-month period of action and initiatives that we believe made the group’s presence particularly felt. We have strengthened the effort made by bodies of our region to make the great port of Piraeus a sea of communication and a centre of culture in the Mediterranean.
We established new institutions the Multinational Cultural Festival , the International Folklore Festival, the Panorama of Traditional Dances and successfully organized more than 300 events.
– From November 1999 to April 2000 special advisor to the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Gregory Niotis for UNESCO cultural events and the Cultural Olympiad.
– Since December 2000 again special adviser to the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Gregory Niotis, until today.
– Since October 2000 until today Secretary General of the Hellenic Federation of UNESCO Clubs and Centres as well as still holding the position of President of the Unesco Piraeus Group.
– In February 2001 elected Financial Administrator of the European Commission of UNESCO.
– In February 2002 elected General Counsel and Member of the Executive Council of the Panhellenic Federation of Employees of the Ministry of National Defence, representing 17,000 employees.
– In March 2004, he stood as a candidate for the PASOK party in the North Piraeus region.
– 19 to 21 August 2011 – World Congress of the World Federation of UNESCO Clubs and Centres (WFUCA) – elected for the second time Vice-President of the World Federation for Europe and North America
