Maria Ines Garnica Montenegro joined the Department of English and Modern Languages at Deree Athens, Greece in 1996. Before that, she had taught at the University Gabriel René Moreno of Santa Cruz, Bolivia, and the University of Plymouth, UK. At DEREE she has been developing and teaching a variety of basic and intermediate Spanish language classes, including a socio-cultural course “Spain and Latin America Today.
Her permanent concern in teaching foreign languages is bringing a whole cultural and life experience into the class while learning the language.
She is a firm believer that the knowledge of languages and the intercultural understanding are very important to achieve peace through better communication between people. For that reason She initiated the foundation of the Cultures and Languages Club at Deree and has acted as its Advisor ever since.
She is a member of ASPE (Asociación de Profesores de Español en Atenas) and of the virtual space of Spanish teachers “Comunidad TodoELE”.
Apart from her teaching and academic interests, she is devoted to supporting and spreading Latin American culture. She organizes cultural events, film showings and various other activities in ASCLAYE, a Latin American and Spanish socio-cultural association in Greece.
